We confess to not having heard of this show until we received your query, which piqued our interest.
It turns out that "The Linemakers" was a short-lived show on Discovery HD Theater (now Velocity) that debuted in September, 2011 and ran for just one (football) season. An article about the show in the Las Vegas Weekly just after it began airing described it as follows:
"Taped each Tuesday at the South Point and airing Friday evenings, 'The Linemakers' features a panel discussion on sports betting among a group of Nevada sports book industry insiders. The lineup includes Lou D’Amico, Vinny Magliulo, Kenny White, Richie Baccellieri, Rick Herron, and Jimmy Vaccaro. Brian Blessing hosts.
"The titular linemakers review the previous weekend’s football action from a betting angle and look ahead to the coming weekend’s games, discussing point spreads in a professional, measured manner with some organic doses of humor. Nothing seems forced, and the industry veterans know their stuff."
From trawling the Web we can see that you weren't the only fan of the show, which does indeed feature an impressive lineup of venerable Vegas handicappers and sports book directors, although the Vegas Chatter blogger admitted to being disappointed upon finding out that "The Linemakers" was, at least in part, a glorified infomercial for the website and the Don Best handicapping service. We read some comments from people who enjoyed the banter and joking between the hosts, while others found it boring and for serious sports-betting fans only. Perhaps that's the reason why the show was dropped by Discovery, but that doesn't mean that it's gone.
While no longer airing on television, "The Linemakers" now has a relationship with The Sporting News and can be viewed on their website every week, where you can also view archived episodes. Now that he's aware of the show, Anthony Curtis is intrigued and will probably tune in to see what it's all about, so we may well be back with LVA's take on "The Linemakers." Stay tuned. The affiliation with Don Best continues, with many of the shows protagonists featured regularly on the weekday radio show, Lunch with the Linemakers.
