Question of the Day - 27 December 2012

Q:
What is the construction on Las Vegas Boulevard in front of the Harmon shell?
A:

"There is also county sewer work going on and off within the vicinity," says an LVA source. But there’s something bigger and, well, nicer happening, too. According MGM Resorts International spokeswoman Yvette Monet, CityCenter is building a new marquee at that corner, presumably a counterpart to its new one on I-15.

It’s partly a matter of keeping up with the Joneses. To the northeast, atop the Harmon Crossing shopping mall, Brett Torino has erected a video wall that’s 322 feet long and 65 feet high. It’s even bigger than the plethora of giant video screens on the long Planet Hollywood façade. Then you have the video tower at Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, which sometimes streams live musical events from the pool deck (Florence + The Machine, for instance). It’s a video arms race in which City Center must adapt or suffer.

Specifics on the CityCenter marquee are few. It will stand 270 feet high and the video quality is promised to be "state of the art." Look for it to be lit up sometime next spring.
