Not only are there are no plans for a Bloomingdale's in the new mall to be built in Summerlin (see QoD 11/26/2012), but as of some time this spring, Las Vegas will lose its existing Bloomingdale's, located in the Fashion Show Mall, which opened in 2002.
Macy's, which owns the high-end department store chain, announced plans last week to close six stores nationwide, including five Macy's and the Bloomingdale's home store in FSM, as part of its plan to "selectively close underperforming stores." A clearance sale begins on Sunday that's expected to last seven to 11 weeks.
While Bloomingdale's is on the way out, Macy's is still expanding its overall presence in the Vegas Valley, since a two-level, 180,000-square-foot Macy's will be one of the "anchors" at the Shops at Summerlin, which has a scheduled opening date of fall 2014. A new two-level, 105,000-square-foot Macy's Men's Store is also planned for Fashion Show Mall, which already has a 201,000-square-foot Macy's. The chain also has regular department-store locations in Galleria Mall at Sunset, Meadows Mall, Boulevard Mall, and a home store on Spring Mountain Road.
