Question of the Day - 16 February 2013

Q:
I saw that the country superstars show reopened at PH what about the Legends show. I seen it several times and it was always a packed house is there any news on it reopening?
A:

Legends in Concert is a tribute show, featuring a live band and no lip-synching, that first opened in 1983 at the Imperial Palace. What was intended as a six-week limited engagement expanded into a 26-year residency, before the show moved to Harrah's, where it opened on February 23, 2009 and completed another four-year run, making it the second-longest running show in the city, after Jubilee! at Bally's.

Success in Las Vegas led to new shows opening in other locations, including turning the tables on Broadway in 1989 by becoming the first Las Vegas show to open there. International tours to destinations including Africa, Australia, and China, followed, plus residencies at Myrtle Beach, SC; Branson, MO; Foxwoods Resort-Casino; Bally's Atlantic City; and on the Norwegian Epic cruise liner.

The Las Vegas Legends show still seemed to be vibrant when in May, 2012, it was announced that tributes to Whitney Houston, Adele, and Justin Timberlake were being added. However, in October came news that the show would not be going on, at least not at Harrah's, where it closed on December 30.

You can't keep a good tribute down, however, and by mid-December came word that Legends had found a new at the Flamingo, where it begins a brand-new multi-year residency on February 28, with tickets starting at $60.95. Its former spot at Harrah's was taken by Million Dollar Quartet, the Tony Award-winning musical about Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, and Elvis Presley, which opened earlier this month.
