Question of the Day - 18 February 2013

Q:

Hello! Longtime subscriber here and love your newsletters and coupons! My question is since most of us now have player cards to the casinos we play in (thanks to your coupons etc. showing us the value of being player club members), why is it that you have no area available that lists the current offers and rewards for current and new player club card holders?

A:

We do have listings, maintained by outside experts, for current players club bonus point promotions around town, plus if you use the link for the vpfree2 online community on our Best Video Poker page and hit the "What's New" button to find feedback from expert players who are out in the field and sharing information about new promotions they discover.

The reason we don't maintain a dedicated section on our website listing all current players club incentives and offers is simply a matter of resources and economic sense. In order to keep such comprehensive listings, we'd need to keep completely up-to-date with information for every players club in Las Vegas which number almost 50, and that's not including the myriad players clubs for the good video poker bars around town, which we'd also feel obliged to maintain good data for. It's just too much, because things change too often -- even at the club level, as properties change hands, merge, rebrand, or close -- let alone individual promotions -- and in our opinion bad information is much worse than no information, and we just couldn't guarantee that we'd be able to stay on top of every club, all the time, without allocating resources that would impact our ability to do other things.

Besides, we do list lots of what you're asking for; you just need to know where to look. If you're LVA subscribers and read the monthly newsletter, you'll know that Anthony and LVA's affiliates are out-and-about all the time finding and reporting on the best current deals and promos all over town, and you can guarantee all that data is accurate and fresh. The relevant forums on the Las Vegas Advisor member message boards ("Coupons," "Comps," etc.) are another good source of tips from players. You'll frequently find information reported in Today's News, too, too, while Bob Dancer's weekly column often features his expert analysis of the pros and cons of video poker offers and promos he's received or played.

Bottom line, we'd rather report accurately on offers and bonuses that we know are good and current and allow others -- like you! -- to spread the word about the ones we don't necessarily know about, whenever you get a good offer in the mail, or sign up for a new club, or go and play a promo that you'd heard about via the grapevine.

Update 18 February 2013

Thanks to "Queen of Comps" Jean Scott for the extra tidbit she just sent in regarding another excellent source of casino-promo info: "A few months ago I started a new feature in my Frugal Vegas blog called 'Vegas Promotions'. At the end of each month, I talk about the promos coming up the next month in some of the Vegas casinos. I zero in on the locals casinos that market mainly in local mailings, but have offers that would appeal to those locals and out-of-towners who don’t get those mailers. I also cover changes – good and bad - in VP inventory, bounce-back requirements, and players club policies, plus I try to include nuggets of 'frugal' information that you might not see in print anywhere else but that just might save/make you some money. You can read a sample at February Vegas Promotions.
