Question of the Day - 22 February 2013

Q:
At the end of year the Silverton Casino stated with the upgrade of it's sports book that they would be reopening the poker room next door. Can you give us an update as to when it might open and any details about the room.
A:

2012 was a mixed year for Las Vegas poker rooms, with the closure of facilities at Joker's Wild, Aliante, Tropicana, Silverton, and the former Fitzgeralds, while TI, Venetian, and Ellis Island all added new rooms and those at Palms, Buffalo Bill's, and the former Imperial Palace (now the Quad) received upgrades.

The Palms' new poker room was an adjunct to its new race and sports book, one of what were a total of seven being operated by Cantor Gaming in the Las Vegas valley, including those at M, the New Tropicana, Hard Rock, Venetian, Cosmo, and Palazzo. Then, back in November 2012, Cantor debuted its eighth facility, with a brand new book at Silverton that had previously been operated by LeRoy's. Like the Palms, Silverton's Cantor-operated sports book was supposed to come hand-in-hand with a new poker room, to replace the one that had closed earlier in the year. However, when we called Silverton this week to check on its status, we were informed by the pit that it was all set up and ready to go, but that they were still waiting on regulatory approval from the Gaming Control Board. A line to Cantor was met with the same response. So, basically, no news is no news, but with Cantor being an established mega-player in Las Vegas, and Silverton having only recently closed its previous poker room, we can't imagine any reason why the room would not get the official go-ahead. Watch this space -- or, more likely, "Today's News," for updates.
