Question of the Day - 14 March 2013

Q:
Do you have any information yet on specials at casinos with regards to the March Madness basketball tournament later in March?
A:

We certainly do, and actually a little while has elapsed since this question was submitted and posted, so it's now less than a week till the start of the 2013 tournament, on March 19.

March Madness is a fun fixture in the Vegas event calendar, and you'll find lots of bars, restaurants, and of course race and sports books getting in on the action, so we're not going to post about every beer bucket or free t-shirt giveaway. Rather, what follows is a list of all the major promos and events we've heard about so far that are open to attend (Lagasse's Stadium at Palazzo, for example, informed us that they're already booked out for the duration). We'll post any stragglers in "Today's News" as we come across them.

  • The Silverton is making a strong bid to be March Madness central this year, with some crazy food and drink deals at Mermaid Restaurant & Lounge, Shady Grove Lounge & Bar, and Mi Casa Grill Cantina. During every televised NCAA Basketball Tournament game, specials will include $4 PBR pitchers at all bars, $12 Corona/Corona Light buckets (6), and $2 Jager shots, while some of the bargain food specials include $2 pizzas inside Mermaid Restaurant & Lounge (these usually start at $7) and $2 tacos, taquitos, and quesadillas at Mi Casa Grill Cantina, among many other options.

  • Downtown's El Cortez will be home to Beer, Brats and Basketball Madness, with a viewing party for the Men’s NCAA Basketball Tournament in its Fiesta Room March 21-23 that's free and open to the public each day. In addition to catching the hoop action, guests can enjoy a special viewing-party menu featuring $1 Budweiser drafts, $1 hot dogs, and $2 brats. Additional stadium-style fare will also be available.

  • Public House Las Vegas at Luxor (not be confused with the other unrelated Public House at Palazzo), will be hosting viewing parties during the championships, featuring food and drink specials Tuesday, March 19 through Monday, April 8, including The Mad Platter appetizer sampler for $75 and $25 buckets of wings with a choice of gourmet seasonings. Booze specials include buckets of five Bud Light or Coors Light beers for $25, plus $5 Jager shots and $8JagerBombs. The games will be screened on their 27 hi-def TVs and the huge TV "wall" above the bar.

  • Señor Frog’s at TI will offer similar specials, including the "Loco Platter" appetizer combo for $25, 5-beer Miller Lite buckets for $25, and an array of hi-def TVs and giant projection screens.

  • Ranch House Kitchen at Town Square will be featuring beer specials from Tuesday, March 19, until Monday, April 8, including $20 beer buckets, $5 22-ounce drafts, and $8 pitchers of Budweiser, Bud Light, Bud Light Lime, Bud Light Platinum, and Michelob Ultra, while current UNLV co-eds can get 50% off food and regularly priced drinks with valid ID.

  • PBR ROCKBAR Strip-side venue at the Miracle Mile Shops will feature $19 Bud and Bud Light beer buckets from March 19 through April 8.

  • Rockhouse, located in The Grand Canal Shoppes at Venetian will offer premium open-bar access for $125 for the duration, which includes guaranteed seating.

  • And for something a little different, on March 19 at 10:30 a.m., The Mob Museum downtown will host a news conference, book signing, and open discussion with former NBA referee and Personal Foul author Tim Donaghy, whose intimate knowledge of the game and its key players landed him a 75% betting average -- and a stint in jail.
