Question of the Day - 28 May 2013

Q:
LVA reported that there's a good blackjack game at a truck stop near Silverton. When I check thealamo.com, it takes me to Sparks in Reno where there is a truck stop and good blackjack. Am I confusing two Alamos?
A:

There are five Alamo truck stop "casinos" in Nevada -- the two you mention, one in Wells, one in Mill City, and another in North Las Vegas. Of these, only the Sparks and south Las Vegas locations have blackjack games, and both deal the most liberal rules in their respective areas. In Las Vegas there are two tables of single deck with naturals paying 3-2, dealer hits soft 17, late surrender, and an unbusted six-card hand is an automatic winner. The result is a basic-strategy edge for the casino of .14%. Limits are $5-$100.

The Las Vegas Alamo is located at 8030 Dean Martin Drive, which is at the corner of Dean Martin and Blue Diamond Rd., across the street from the Silverton. In addition to the good blackjack game, it has some decent promotions and even a few slots that still operate by handle pull. Check it out during happy hour from 4 to 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. to midnight, when domestic beers and well drinks are just a buck.
