Question of the Day - 07 July 2013

Q:
What happened to the Kill Phil co-author Blair Rodman? With the WSOP in progress, I was looking forward to his insightful writing, especially about the politics and conflicts of personalities and other issues. Is he persona non grata, or has he simply gone on to other things of more import?
A:

Blair is actively playing in this year's WSOP, and has logged three cashes going into the Main Event, raising his lifetime total of in-the-money-finishes to a lofty 43 and pushing his earnings over the $1.5 million mark, including winning a bracelet in 2007.

For the past couple of years, Blair has blogged at LasVegasAdvisor.com, with his posts being more frequent during the World Series of Poker. Some of his writings were critical of WSOP policies, but things never boiled over to the point where there was excess friction between him and the tournament honchos. In fact, Blair has a good relationship with WSOP Tournament Director Jack Effel, who has read his blogs and listened to his input, which has likely had some influence in ongoing WSOP policies.

This year Blair decided to put his blogging on hold, partly due to our efforts to implement a website redevelopment that would better feature his and the blogs of others. Ongoing delays in the redevelopment necessitated a decision about restarting the blog in its previous environment or waiting for the new one, and we mutually chose to hold off. Blair still answers the odd poker-related "Question of the Day" and contributes poker information to the Las Vegas Advisor newsletter. Plus you can still follow him on Twitter at @blairrodman.com.

While most of his time is spent playing, he's also made some moves into the media world. In addition to commenting on the state of poker's legalization on the radio, earlier this year Blair appeared on the Cooking Channel's "Tripping Out with Alie & Georgia," where he gave the girls a lesson on playing no-limit hold 'em. And you can see him in his latest television foray ... tonight, where we expect he'll show up on the TV show "Bar Rescue." Here's how Anthony Curtis described Blair's part in the July Las Vegas Advisor.

"And here's one more bit of inside info for you. While I haven't seen the show yet, I'm pretty sure one of the featured characters will be a guy that's referred to as "baseball hat," a big player who comes into the bar to gamble. Baseball hat is Blair Rodman. Blair came in during the "stress test" to check things out. I wanted to get him a seat at a machine, but all the seats were occupied by non-players. My insistence that someone be moved "to accommodate the gambler" became a major theme relating to how the staff should cater to players. Was Blair really a gambler deserving of that attention? Nah, he just wanted free drinks."

Check it out tonight on Spike TV at 9 p.m. PST.
