Question of the Day - 28 October 2013

Q:
Can you give any update on guy Fieri's new restaurant at The Quad?
A:

There have been a few upsets in the wave of recent resort revamps, what with continual delays with the Delano, the accidental "leaking" of the news that Emmy Award-winning celebrity chef, author, and TV personality, Giada De Laurentiis, would be opening her very first restaurant at Gansevoort Las Vegas -- followed by news that Gansevoort is no more (although our understanding is that De Laurentiis is still on board) -- and so on.

All has been quiet on The Quad front, where the remodel continues. But yes, back in June we did announce that Food Network host Guy Fieri would be upping the culinary ante at what was never much of a "foodie" destination in its Imperial Palace days, and opening a restaurant which, he promised in an interview with the R-J, will feature "an eclectic mix of food in a real fun environment" and will include a "really good Bloody Mary Brunch program." Fieri is not only a regular visitor to Las Vegas when he's wearing his Food Network hat, for shows like "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives", but is also a UNLV catering alumnus, so we're hoping for good things.

The original word was that the new venue would open before the end of the year, but not much additional news has been forthcoming, aside from the odd tidbit. For example, back in August the VegasEater blog leaked some insight into what the restaurant would likely by named, which turned out to be pretty darned close to what the official announcement at the end of September confirmed.

While we could spare you the clicking and tell you that Guy's Las Vegas debut will carry the slightly underwhelming moniker of "Guy's American Kitchen & Bar," we still urge you to click through that second link, where you can also view some photos of the construction progress and glean the odd additional useful tidbit, like the fact it's going to feature a large patio facing on to the Carnaval Court, so expect this to be a party spot.

All official timetables are sticking to a "late 2013 opening," while Guy's own official website makes no mention whatsoever of this new restaurant's existence, so for now we can only keep referring you to "Today's News" and the monthly LVA newsletter for updates.
