How do the cab rates in Las Vegas compare to the other major U.S. cities?

That's an interesting question, generated by yesterday's QoD. We checked out the official rates at a few other random major cities, and here's what we found:

Las Vegas official taxicab rates:

  • Initial activation of taximeter: $ 3.30
  • Each additional 1/13th mile ($2.60 per mile - includes $.20 per mile fuel surcharge) 20¢
  • Waiting time per hour: $30
  • McCarran Airport fee per pick-up: $2

New York:

  • Standard city rate: $2.50 upon entry
  • Each additional unit: 50¢ (unit fare is: 1/5 mile, when the taxicab is traveling at 6 miles an hour or more; or 60 seconds when not in motion or traveling at less than 6 miles per hour.
  • Night surcharge after 8 p.m. and before 6 a.m.: 50¢
  • Peak-hour weekday surcharge (Mon.-Fri. after 4 p.m. and before 8 p.m.): $1
  • New York state tax surcharge: 50¢/ride

San Francisco:

  • First 1/5 mile: $3.50
  • Each additional 1/5th mile: $0.55
  • Each minute of waiting or traffic time delay: $0.55
  • Airport-exit surcharge: $2

Atlanta:

  • First 1/8 mile or part thereof: $2.50
  • Each additional 1/8 mile: 25¢
  • Waiting time: $21/hour
  • Each additional passenger: $2
  • 20% discount: senior/disabled citizen

Chicago:

  • Flag pull (base fare): $3.25
  • Each additional mile: $1.80
  • Every 36 seconds of time elapsed: 20¢
  • First additional passenger: $1
  • Each additional passenger after first passenger: 50¢
  • Vomit clean-up fee: $50
  • Airport departure/arrival tax: $2

Dallas:

  • Minimum fare: $2.25 for first mile
  • Each 1/9 mile: 20¢
  • Waiting charges per hour: $20
  • Each additional passenger: $2
  • Minimum for trips originating at Love Field Airport: $8
  • Love Field loading fee: $1
