Right you are. In North Las Vegas, a 30-slot, storefront casino operated for a time as Beverly Hillbillies Gambler Casino. It sat on Lake Mead Boulevard, where the Las Vegas Sun paid a visit in 2009. The occasion was that the Dotty’s chain coveted it as a potential location for expansion. "Dilapidated would be a compliment," reporter Mike Trask wrote of the property’s condition.
Back in 1991, actor Max Baer Jr. purchased the licensing rights to The Beverly Hillbillies from CBS-TV for $1 million. His attempts to build a giant (some would say grotesque) Beverly Hillbillies-themed casino in Reno were repeatedly thwarted. However, he sublicensed the theme to the North Las Vegas grind joint, in return for a 10% stake in the operation. It didn’t last long in its Beverly Hillbillies incarnation and was sold to new owners, who staggered along a bit further, then closed in 2008. When the Sun visited it, Nevada Restaurant Services was hoping to fold it into its chain of Dotty’s-branded convenience casinos, which it did. It’s still chugging along under the Dotty’s imprimatur, at 2501 E. Lake Mead Blvd., should you feel like a visit. Tell them Jethro sent you.
