Question of the Day - 21 November 2013

Q:
Are there any daytime Las Vegas-style shows? Like Elvis impersonators or showgirls? I thought I read one the hotels does something like this, but I cant remember where. I will be coming out mid-week in January. Thanks in advance.
A:

When it comes to "Vegas-style showgirl shows," they barely exist at all, especially not during the daytime. Jubilee! at Bally's is the last survivor of that breed, and is about to undergo a major revamp, while Vegas! The Show is a tribute to the whole history of classic "Vegas" entertainment, but neither performs during the day. However, you can catch (not so) Big (anymore) Elvis, the famed supersized tribute artist, who's actually lost a lot of weight, performing daily from 2-6 p.m. in the Piano Bar at Harrah's (dark Wednesdays). The additional good news is that this show is FREE!

Meanwhile, the other shows currently with matinee/late-afternoon performances are:

Broadway Rat Pack (Tues-Sat, 4 p.m., Four Queens, but early reviews have not been kind...); Gregory Popovich's Comedy Pet Theater (Mon-Sat, 2:30 p.m., V Theater -- furry, feathered fun with performing rescue animals, but it's seasonal, so check to see if it's here or touring); Jeff Civillico: Comedy in Action (4 p.m., The Quad, dark Tues & Fri -- family-friendly "physical" comedy, featuring stunts and audience interaction); Laughternoon with Adam London (Mon-Sun, 4 p.m., the D -- fun show featuring lots of rubber ducks, among other things); Mac King Comedy Magic (Tues-Sat, 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., Harrah's -- a family-friendly comedy-magic show -- its longevity on the Strip is testament to King's talent); Murray the Magician (Sat-Thurs, 4 p.m., Tropicana -- haven't seen, so can't comment); Nathan Burton (Tues-Sun, 4 p.m., Saxe Theater in Miracle Mile Shops - family-friendly comedy-magic, oh, and it has showgirls, too!); and Remembering Red - A Tribute to Red Skelton with Brian Hoffman (Sat-Tues, 2 p.m., Westin Las Vegas -- again, haven't seen, but it's been running a long time...)
