I am sorry to hear the there will not be an ELV 2014. I bought and enjoyed all three editions of the guide. Now that's it is gone, will anything replace it? An ELV blog on this website perhaps? Or maybe postings in "Today's News" whenever Al, John, or Max has a particularly positive review? How will I find out about the best new and old restaurants out there? And how can I separate the expert opinion from the popular opinion and/or media hype?

That's about four QoDs! In the spirit of giving this holiday season, however, we'll attempt to answer all to the best of our ability.

As you'll read in the previous answer, we identified ELV's biggest challenge to be the reluctance of people to pay for information these days, regardless of quality, and that ultimately the power of Yelp.com represented an insuperable obstacle to commercial success. While the popular-opinion site certainly has its merits, it in no way carries the transparent and expert opinions readers can glean from the trio of Las Vegas' three most experienced -- and diverse (in their food tastes as much as their dress sense) food critics behind Eating Las Vegas.

Still, all is not lost, by any means. For one thing, you should definitely check out the monthly Las Vegas Advisor newsletter, in which Anthony Curtis features a large and eclectic dining section wherein you'll find reviews of everything from hot dogs to haute cuisine, all from the signature LVA viewpoint of finding the best value for money. It's been a trademark of the newsletter throughout its almost 30-year history to maintain an absolutely independent voice -- we pay our own way and don't allow chefs or restaurateurs to curry favor by wining and dining us -- so you know you're not being fed any hype or agenda.

While we realize the majority of LVA members are out-of-towners and that for many it's more convenient or comfortable to stick to dining in hotels, we also know a lot of people bring or rent a vehicle while in Las Vegas and enjoy the experience of dining "off-piste," so to speak. Hence, for many years we've made a point of featuring a different "Local Corner" each month, which could feature anything from a casual fried/BBQ chicken joint, as is the case this month, to top-of-the-line sushi. What all the venues have in common is that they're not inside a hotel or casino and that we consider them to offer quality, value, and in most instances also a colorful experience or interesting ambiance.
