RawVegas.tv debuted online on January 19, 2007. As the name suggests, it was part of the explosion of irreverent "guerilla-style" filming and broadcasting, produced cheaply and broadcast exclusively online. Aimed at a young-adult audience, the channel comprised a magazine-style mix of "lifestyle" content focusing on everyday life in Las Vegas, from daily local-news content (e.g., the current state of gas prices), plus reviews (movies, nightlife, etc.), original comedy and other entertainment from both known and new Vegas "talent," gambling information, and "reality" shows, plus the inevitable celebrity coverage, gossip, and general trivia that clogs the Internet.
There was a notable focus on the simultaneous explosions of online poker and MMA fighting, due to their local relevance and focus, including lots of interviews with pro players and fighters, plus an uncensored video blog from Daniel Negreanu and a show featuring outrageous dares and wagers between gamblers Gavin Smith and Joe Sebok in the vein of "Punk'd," "Impractical Jokers," "Badass.tv," etc. You can get a taste of what we're talking about at funnyordie.com/rawvegastv.
While there was a lot of hype around this new homegrown media venture, which allegedly saw more than a couple of million people tuning in at its launch and promised to deliver 20 hours of new original content each week, the whole thing was fairly short-lived and we confess we'd pretty much forgotten all about it until we received your email. We suspect strongly that the demise of RawVegas.tv was due to the common affliction of most Web ventures: the inability to make any money.
There's a new website that promises a relaunch, "Coming Soon!" However, since the last activity there was in December, 2011, we're not exactly holding our breath. It looks like the main legacy of RawVegas.tv will be a pretty cool logo.
