Question of the Day - 17 December 2013

Q:
Yesterday I went to the Container Park and across the street was a fenced lot full of Airstream trailers. What's up with that?
A:

What's up with that, is that it's the new Las Vegas home of Airstream 2 Go, the company that's the exclusive, factory-authorized source in North America to rent current-model Airstream trailers, sized to sleep up to four or six passengers, which come with custom-matched dedicated GMC Yukon Denali tow vehicles. The other current rental office is in L.A., with other U.S. locations scheduled to be added in 2014.

Airstream 2 Go is the brainchild of an enthusiast and former CEO of Airstream and one of the recent additions to the booming new-business scene downtown (it's a welcome change to see some diversification away from the bar/restaurant or boutique/gift store paradigms that together encompass many of the areas success stories to date).

In terms of some history, the Airstream trailer has been an iconic symbol of American travel since Wally Byam first started selling his "silver bullet" design commercially, back in 1932. Since then, the look of the aluminum living pods has evolved subtly, but they're still true to the original concept, both in form and function.

Although Airstream 2 Go is essentially a DIY vacation concept, they're not exactly a bargain option: Normally, rentals start at a four-day minimum, with the choice of: a) the "take-and-go" option, which is $2,320 for the 23-footer, or $2,600 for the 26-foot trailer; b) the custom package, which is $600 more, which is inclusive of a planned itinerary and of all applicable site fees, taxes, etc., along the way. Note that now, through March 14, 2014, there's an off-season special, offering a reduced three-day minimum rental, plus 25% off the rate. Click to see the full rate card, with all available options.

The Las Vegas office, located at 123-125 N. 10th Street, is open Mon.-Fri., from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (weekend deliveries and returns are by appointment only). For more information call 800 -780-9880 or email [email protected].
