Question of the Day - 13 February 2014

Q:
What happened to your companion site about (live) poker? I think it was LVAPoker.com or something like that. Did that go away without me noticing?
A:

Not without you noticing, obviously, but it did go away – at least for now. If you try to go to LVAPoker.com, it redirects to LasVegasAdvisor.com, as that will be the eventual home to all of our gambling information.

Our original idea was to have separate sites for different things – poker, sports, coupons, etc. – but we’ve reassessed and are in the process of bringing everything into the LasVegasAdvisor.com environment. Since we’ve had major problems with the redevelopment of the main website, the process has been slower than hoped for; however, the fact that we’ve eliminated LVAPoker provides some proof that we’re making headway. As of now LVASports.com still exists as a separate entity, but its main function is to house the good betting-line feed we get from SportsOptions.com. That address will also be redirected at some point this year.

Our plans for the gambling areas of LasVegasAdvisor.com are very ambitious and we don’t know for sure if we can pull off the whole magilla, but the foundation is already in place. We recently debuted the blog Beyond Numbers written by James Grosjean, the biggest name in the world of "advantage play." It joins Jean Scott’s Frugal Vegas blog, and we have plans for others that will be similarly provocative for gambling students at all levels. There’s also Bob Dancer’s weekly (mostly) video poker column, also an LVA exclusive. And then there’s the LVA Casino, where you can play daily tournaments and live games for free. The links to these features are provided above, but they’re now all accessible from the LasVegasAdvisor.com home page. There’s that consolidation initiative at work.

It’s a good start, but it’s only a start. We’re in the process of building out all of our gambling pages. Plans call for information to range from LVA-style how-tos for beginners, to high-end strategies provided by many of the top experts in the field. A lot of information will come from our own Huntington Press-published gambling books, but much more will be new and fresh, as the effort is being overseen by James Grosjean.

Finally, there’s a wealth of gambling information in the Question of the Day archives. These archives are currently available only to Las Vegas Advisor members, but we will eventually make them public, so everything will be available to all in one place – LasVegasAdvisor.com.

On a related note, we’ll be initiating weekend tournaments this week at the LVA Casino, kicking off with a big poker tournament planned for noon PST on Sunday. First prize will be $100 and there will be prizes for all nine players who make the final table. This is "social gambling," so it doesn’t cost you anything to play, but the prizes are real. All you have to do is sign up with an email and password at Play.LasVegasAdvisor.com. See you there on Sunday.
