The Sunday is a new weekly magazine published by Greenspun Media that incorporates Greenspun’s business magazine, Vegas Inc. The timing seems right for a new free periodical, given that Stephens Media's CityLife was recently discontinued, and the first copy hit the street last week.
The magazine is a mix of news and local-interest stories. There’s not much of an entertainment slant, as that’s the purview of Greenspun’s Las Vegas Weekly. The front section of "The Premiere Issue" contained articles on youth sports, a local murder case, and the upcoming Pacquiao/Bradley fight, along with stand-alone features, such as "5-Minute Expert," which covered "How They Get Cars in Casinos" (for promotions). The back section is the Vegas Inc. side, with more of a business focus.
All in all it’s simply another alternative magazine joining Vegas Weekly and Vegas Seven (to which Anthony Curtis contributes a column called "The Deal"), with one big difference: The Sunday appears to be zeroing in on casino promotions. The first issue had a full page listing various promos. It’s not remotely complete (that would take several pages) and the mix is a bit curious, but it’s more than you’ll find in most sources. Near the back of the magazine there’s a coupon section with offers that include dining discounts and some gambling bonuses from Boyd’s "Coast" properties, Rampart, Tuscany, and a few others. There’s nothing there that doesn’t show up in other places and they have restrictive date ranges, but you may find something you can use.
We’ve always advised leafing through all the freebie mags you come across, if only to get information from the advertisements, and The Sunday provides another source for that. Look for it distributed free at 1,500+ locations throughout Las Vegas.
