The answer, to the best of our knowledge, is simply a matter of her respecting others' privacy: While Jean Scott is far from shy and enjoys being able to share her experiences and expertise with others, whether in print, online, or in front of a TV camera, it is in her professional capacity that she's in the public eye; outside of that remit, she and her husband remain a fairly private and low-key couple, particularly Brad.
In fact, this writer has an amusing anecdote to relate with regard to "Mr" Jean Scott. Going back several years, I was filming a documentary series for Discovery Channel and happened to be at the Silverton when some late-night slot tournament was taking place, themed as a pajama party. I knew Jean and Brad were going to be participating and had met them both before, so when I noticed Brad sitting at a slot machine in his pjs, I naturally walked over to say hello. At least, I thought it was Brad, but the gentleman I greeted apparently had no clue who I was and quickly turned back to his machine, looking somewhat ruffled at having been accosted by an unknown foreign female. Oops!
Fast forward a few days, however, and Huntington Press was hosting a party of some kind, to which Jean and her husband naturally were invited, as was I. When I saw Brad, I truly questioned whether perhaps I was finally losing my mind, since I was quite positive this was the very same man who had turned his back to me just a couple of days prior at the Silverton.
Resigned to the possibility of looking like an idiot again, or that this was proof positive of the onset of early senility, once more I wandered over and tapped this elderly gentleman on the shoulder, prompting him to turn around and greet me warmly, albeit with a somewhat sheepish expression. "Hello there! This is too weird," I ventured, "because I saw someone who was your absolute double last week at the Silverton, playing the same promo as Jean, but he totally blanked me." He responded, "Oh, yes, that was me, and I thought it was you, but I wasn't totally sure, so I pretended I didn't know you, just in case," Brad apologized.
He and I still laugh about that incident to this day, but it's a good example of how private Jean's husband is, a fact to which his wife is always sensitive. However, your question is timely, since coincidentally the Queen of Comps just recently posted an entry in her blog in which she shares the story of her and Brad's first-ever excursion to Las Vegas. It's an uncharacteristically personal insight into their life as a couple and has got her thinking about the possibility of penning a memoir... Knowing Jean Scott as we do, this would undoubtedly be a fun and colorful read, so it's a project we feel inclined to encourage, but we know that Brad's say-so will be imperative before his wife even considers putting pen to paper for anything so intimate. We'll keep you posted, should anything materialize on that front, but in the meantime you can take advantage of Jean's candid and ever-insightful tips on getting the most out of Sin City via her Frugal Vegas blog.
