While Las Vegas remains the world capital for gambling, weddings, and general partying (in terms of cultural perception, at least), from our front-row vantage point we have noticed a muting of response, in recent times, when it comes to some of the more off-the-wall/stretching-it-thin excuses to celebrate. This year National Chocolate and National Cheeseburger Day both passed us by with barely a mention, ditto International Beer Day. Our Research Dept. isn't complaining, by any means: There are plenty of Mother's Days, pool parties, NFRs, and Halloweens to keep us plenty busy, year-round. 12/12/12 didn't even register on our radar, we confess.
In light of this, we contacted the person who submitted today's query, asking if they'd be kind enough to refresh our memory, since a call to Vdara revealed that even they had zero recollection of what they'd previously celebrated, and how or when, either. The QoD reader kindly responded: "This really did happen! It was a wine-tasting event that was fantastic. They had several different wineries involved; I even won the first-place prize, a $250 gift certificate to be used at Crystals.[Ed: Aha! Now we fully comprehend your interest!] It was held in the back by the bar, across from the room elevators, and was heavily attended. I hope Vegas has something planned for 12/13/14, as I already booked my stay."
Okay, now we really do believe you! But when it comes to anything out of the ordinary this time around, all we can say is that unless you're planning on popping the question or tying the knot, you're probably out of luck.
Back on 11/12/13, upscale burger chain Smashburger ran a promo with the grand prize of a Las Vegas wedding package, which included return flight and accommodation for the lucky couple; as far as we've heard, the best you can hope for on 12/13/14 is an offer from The LINQ's High Roller observation wheel to be one of the lucky couples participating in their simultaneous in-cabin complimentary wedding ceremonies, running for two hours and two minutes, from 10:11 a.m. to 12:13 p.m., on that date. It's the final sequential wedding date of this century, so make it memorable, if getting hitched seems like a good idea. If not, we'll keep our ear to the ground with regard to other date-specific promos and we'll be sure to pass on the relevant details, should they pop up. Perhaps this QoD will inspire some, because 12/13/14 is looking pretty non-eventful right now.
