Question of the Day - 01 March 2015

Q:
"Best Burger in Vegas" Poll: Reader Feedback.
A:

There was simply too much great feedback from our recent "Best Burger" poll to fit it into the space available when we ran the results yesterday, so we're highlighting your comments and suggestions today. Thanks for the great response and all this additional food for thought!

  • The burger at the Pub at the Monte Carlo is a MUST stop every trip." [Ed: Did you ever try the 8 lb Burger Challenge there??!]

  • "Downtown Grand's OMG! BURGER: grilled tomato, bacon, shallot aioli, fried onion 8.95 add cheese .99"

  • "You have Bobby's Burger Palace listed, but I think you forgot the Mesa Grill in Caesar, which serves one of the best burgers I've ever had. It's a big beefy patty, great bun, and I love the horseradish mustard. It's a go-to burger on just about every visit, possibly even a must-eat!"

  • "We don't eat a lot of burgers in Las Vegas, because there are so many good places to eat, and I can get a good burger back home. However, the one place we always go is the Burger Brasserie to use the coupon in the MRB. On our most recent trip this past January, the burger was exceptionally good. We also like Five Guys, and during one of our earliest trips to Las Vegas when we didn't know our way around, we went to Outback for one of their delicious burgers. I was amazed by the number of choices on this survey, and clearly, we've got some exploring to do!"

  • "Loved the list. Toooo many choices but I think you forgot Fuddruckers @ Orleans, one of the best for a huge burger."

  • "We rarely eat beef burgers, but we ate at Harrah's KGB and had their salmon burger and it was the best salmon burger we have ever had! We went back the last time we were in Vegas and they were closed for lunch (it was a Wednesday) so we will have to wait until we go again in May." [Ed: We hope your trip is prior to May 22, as that's the day KGB is slated to close.]

  • "Toby Keith's I Love this Bar and Grill at Harrah's. Great burgers, always lively and a good place to people watch."

  • "I love the burgers at Smith & Wollensky. They are a real treat. I also like those at Ellis Island and the Palace Station has a good one at the buffet."

  • "Didn't realize there were so many choices. I had to pick White Castle as it a hometown burger. lol I don't care how fancy a burger gets I am only willing to pay a reasonable price for a burger, I don't like to pay for a name or hype. A Red Robin burger will fit the bill."

  • "Picked Burger Bar, but I could have lived with a dozen of those on the list. My actual favorite is the one I am having next. There are s-o-o-o-o many good ones."

  • "M Resort's Anthony's Burgers and Brews."

  • "Forget the frou-frou. Give me an old fashioned, juicy till it runs down your elbows burger with the All-American fixings that so many of us grew up (and out) on, like Five Guys."

  • "Café Bellagio."

  • "Steak & Shake is THE best burger we've had in Vegas. #2 would be Fuddruckers at Orleans and #3 would be the Johnny Rockets at Silverton. We don't eat burgers as gourmet food - only as a quick meal so we can get on with "Vegas". We've also eaten Burger King which I enjoy. Biggest disappointment in this category was In-and-Out Burger. My wife had read and heard about them so much that we went out of our way on a Vegas trip to go get one when they came to Vegas. We were sorely disappointed. Ordered a "regular" burger and it came with a paper-thin patty with no taste. We must've ordered the wrong thing - or they just don't appeal to Texas tastes - as we've never been tempted to go back!"

  • "Tap Burger at The Tap House, W. Charleston. CLOSE 2nd Hangover Burger, MTO Cafe, on Main St near Clark."

  • "We like the Rum-Runner's burgers and wings, located on Tropicana west of the airport."

  • "Try the Bacon Cheeseburger at 777 Brewpub at Main Street Station. It's great, (but they gotta get rid of those funky rectangular plates -- they really cut down on your french fries!) Good brews too!!!"

  • "I am not a big fan of burgers in general. There are so many wonderful places to eat in Vegas that you can't find anywhere else so burgers are not something I would go out of my way to eat."

  • "I've been eating White Castles all my life (I'm 66). I drive 50 miles each way once a month for my supply. When I pick up friends from the airport returning from Vegas I bring White Castles for their enjoyment." [Ed: You won't need to do that anymore!]

  • "I liked Gordon Ramsay's BurGR. The food is very good, but the service was so slow and not very attentive that I couldn't give a shout-out to go try the burgers there. Gordon needs to go fix his own restaurant and flip out on his own employees because you'll need two hours from putting in your name to paying the bill just to eat a burger there."

  • "I love the Biscuits Cafe (8465 W. Sahara Ave., just east of Durango) burger because it tastes like a burger should, and not greasy like many others are. Try it with their chili on top. It's the best tasting, and filling too!!!"

  • "The best burger ever was at Bradley Ogden in Caesars Palace but sadly it no longer exists; I had to mention it since it was far and above the best burger of any restaurant in town."

  • "Favorite burger 'Other': Timbers."

  • "My favorite Las Vegas burger is the Double Cheeseburger special at the Orleans' Courtyard Café. For $4.99 you get a delicious double cheeseburger and tasty Cajun seasoned fries. The pickles that come with the burger are almost worth the trip from Buffalo, NY to Las Vegas alone! For classier fare, Paris' Burger Brasserie can't be beat, while in the fast-food category, In-n-Out never disappoints with its taste and quality!"

  • "In-N-out is the best burger in value and taste for the price. BLT used to be in my top three but now it's now my 4th place pick because it has slipped in quality/value in recent years. The ultimate best burger is probably one I haven't tried yet (and I've tried many over the past 16 years). The biggest disappointment to date is Bobby Flays' Burger Palace."

  • "Wolfgang Puck Bar & Grill at the MGM has the best burger, made from sirloin ground in-house. When I ask at other restaurants, they say their burgers are made from frozen patties that are delivered that way to the restaurant. You can taste the difference."

  • "I hardly ever eat burgers in Las Vegas (I mean, why bother?) but once I had a Cheeseburger in Paradise at Jimmy Buffet's and it was great. Look and feel of one I might cook on the grill, but it had a seasoning that made the taste outstanding! I've also had occasion to eat at Steak & Shake at South Point, and it was pretty good. distant third was In-and-Out. Decent burger, but the hype outdid the reality."

  • "We love In-N-Out burger. They now have them within 80 miles of where we live in Texas but we only indulge in Vegas! They are simple but delicious, just the right portion size and often times we order a shake with them. I like the idea that everything is fresh. On the other hand, I don't like humongous burgers either. If you get a case of TMJ trying to eat a burger it is just not worth it! To be fair though, we haven't tried any of the non-fast food places you listed."
