Question of the Day - 29 June 2015

Q:
When recently downtown at the Container Park, I noticed what looked like new construction on a dome-shaped structure called The Venue. Looking for any info you might have on this.
A:

Although owner Victor Perrillo purchased the site at 750 Fremont Street back in 2008, with a clear plan in mind, thanks to the prevailing economic climate it was only last August that ground was finally broken on the project called The Venue.

The second such complex to be built under the brand umbrella, downtown's The Venue follows the original location which opened in Scottsdale, Arizona in 2006, as a purpose-built meeting and special-event space designed to host everything from business seminars to weddings to corporate parties, and more. The Las Vegas version was meant to open in February, and then May. Last week they posted pictures on social media as the ballroom floor was stained, so it looks like progress is now advanced and on-track for a summer debut.

When it does open, apparently The Venue will feature close to 40,000 square feet of customizable space that includes: the aforementioned ballroom, with a built-in stage; a first-level lounge and bar that will be open to the public when not reserved for a private event; a second level with three flexible event spaces and an outdoor patio; a rooftop lounge and bar that overlooks the Fremont East Entertainment District; and a comedy club with its own entrance that sounds as if it will also be open to all and plans to feature predominantly local acts.

As downtown becomes more and more of an entrepreneurial hub and business district, The Venue is hoping to cash in on what's perceived as a lack of formal meeting space or of locations capable size- and facilities-wise of handling large private and corporate events. As Mayor Carolyn Goodman commented at the groundbreaking ceremony, "We've always been short on meeting space. We have some wonderful private places that you can go for meetings and parties, but we're always short." Let's just hope they have adequate parking.

The Venue is a full-service concept, with a seasoned executive chef on board, so in addition to providing the space to host your event, catering will also available, whther you require a buffet, banquet, or "butler-passed appetizers," while the site promises that they can hook you up with a network of trusted local vendors to accommodate other requirements, presumably including florists, party planners, decorators, and so on. There are no prices or specific packages currently listed on the official website, so drop them a line via the official email form if you'd like them to quote on hosting an event for you.
