Question of the Day - 11 July 2015

Q:
What is happening out at Lake Las Vegas? We were there two years ago, and there was nothing going on. A few shops and restaurant were open, but really no reason for visiting.
A:

Your experience is not atypical and we can vouch for it, having visited Lake Las Vegas on occasions when it seemed practically deserted. (Frivolous retail probably doesn’t help.) However, there are not just signs of life but of recovery. The Lake’s July calendar is jam-packed with special offers and events, from free live music on the new outside events stage every Saturday, to $1.50 oysters at Sunset & Vines.

From perusing the online events calendar for July, we discovered a bevy of deals and happenings have been unleashed at the Lake. For example, today tees off (literally) with a 10 a.m. golf clinic at Reflection Bay Golf & Beach Club. Lobsterman’s Restaurant holds a Lobster Flatbread Friday (a $2 discount off every lobster pizza sold) and if the temperature at the Lake exceeds 110 degrees, a cooling beverage will be comped. All day long, Westin Lake Las Vegas Hotel & Spa – one of our favorite hangouts – hosts a Family Fun Zone, with beanbag tosses, giant chess, and oversized checkers. If you want live music, you have a choice of a band on the lakeside stage, guitarist RJ Fox at the Hilton Lake Las Vegas’ Resort & Spa’s Firenze Lounge, or a harpist at restaurant Essence & Herbs. And that’s a (very) incomplete listing of just one day’s dining specials and entertainment.

On other days, Reflection Bay hosts a learning-to-paint session for those who want to dabble in watercolors. And it’s almost always Wa-Sake Time! at the Westin’s Marssa Sushi Lounge (5:30 p.m., Tuesday-Thursday). Every month, Lake Las Vegas hosts "Bottles for Barks," a wine-and-liquor stroll (Rum & Rescue this evening is the next one, featuring 20 different stations, live music, and food by Vegas Sol BBQ), where participants sample the wares of various Lake Las Vegas bars and wineries, with proceeds going to animal-rescue programs like On My Way Home. The latter will also be hosting a meet-and-greet at MonteLago Village on July 18, so go and make a new animal amigo. You can give a dog a foster home … and possibly make a furry friend for life. You’ll be glad you did.
