Not yet, but soon, as far as the new hotel tower is concerned, with a call to the property revealing that it's slated for completion in June, 2016.
It's been a long time in the works, since it was originally back in 2007 that plans for a 25-story, 360-room hotel addition were first announced, as part of a $500 million expansion to commence that June that president Craig Cavileer stated at the time was designed to transform the former Boomtown Las Vegas "from a solid performer in the off-Strip market to a destination resort product that will put us up there with the Green Valley Ranch and Red Rock peer group." The plan followed on from the opening of Seasons Buffet and Mi Casa Grill Cantina, which both debuted in 2006, and envisioned the addition of convention space and a greatly expanded casino, plus a new pool, new restaurants, an event venue and a concert amphitheater, all to be serviced by a new parking garage.
In 2009, $160 million of renovation was completed, including debuting the parking garage and some of the promised casino expansion, including a new poker room. A new Italian restaurant, Luciano's, opened (it didn't last too long) and Twin Creeks Steakhouse received a remodel. In 2010 the new Sway Pool Lounge complex came online and in early 2012 the 11,000-square-foot Veil Pavilion opened, designed primarily to cater to weddings and other outside events, but also doubling as a concert venue. Thanks to the Great Recession, however, bigger ambitions had by then long since been placed on ice.
It wasn't until March 2014, in fact, that the concept of expanding the hotel's accommodation resurfaced, by which time some previous talk of a condo element had fallen by the wayside and a new plan for a 390 room all-suite tower was announced, slated to debut sometime in 2016.
Since then, there's been precious little media coverage of the new development, but construction has been proceeding apace this year behind the 1,500-space parking garage, and from our call it sounds as if this time they're sticking to schedule. Meanwhile, the only other significant change that springs to mind this year at Silverton was the opening of WuHu Noodle, the new Asian eatery that debuted July 3 amid much fanfare, including a traditional lion dance and a procession through the casino of Buddhas, drummers, cymbalists, and a gong player, followed by a ribbon cutting and a blessing for good fortune.
