"Of course," says a spokesman for Las Vegas Metro. "Just be careful. Understand that pedestrian traffic is going to be extremely congested." Metro suggest that if you’re using a personal mobility scooter, you should have someone with you who can help you negotiate the sidewalks along the Strip, which have notoriously high pedestrian density. Witness the recent incident in which driver Lakeisha Holloway was able to strike three dozen pedestrians while weaving her car on and off Strip sidewalks and casino entrances. So be aware at all times and have somebody with you if you can.
Also, note that at approximately 5:45 p.m. the temporary closure of roads, streets, and other avenues leading to Las Vegas Boulevard will begin, from Mandalay Bay at the south end to Sahara at the north. At 6 p.m. the barricades that block vehicular access to the Strip will be put in place and by around 6:30 p.m., Las Vegas Boulevard will be fully (and exclusively) open to pedestrian (and mobility-scooter) traffic, but note that at the same time all the people-movers, escalators, and elevators that lead to, or cross over, the Strip will be shut off and will remain non-operational until about 12:15 a.m., following the fireworks display. So, you will be confined to street level for the duration and the barricades don't begin to come down until 1:30 a.m. -- once you've committed to joining the party on the Strip, there's no turning back.
During the "America's Party" revelry, Strip hotels also tend to close their doors to anyone but hotel guests or those with bona fide dinner reservations/tickets to an on-property party, so unless you have a room key don't expect to be able to duck into a casino to use the restroom or take a breather from the crowds. In light of recent incidents, both on U.S. soil and abroad, expect even tighter security than normal, too. Glass bottles and metal containers are banned, while backpacks and other large bags are strongly discouraged and will be subject to search if considered potentially suspicious, so travel light (but dress warmly!)
