Question of the Day - 03 March 2016

Q:
Last year Nellis A.F.B. opened its roads for taxi and bus traffic going to Las Vegas Motor Speedway for the NASCAR races. I heard that this year only buses will be allowed to cut through the base and not taxi cabs. Is there any truth to this and why?
A:

We are happy to report that your source is misinformed. A Nellis Air Force Base spokeswoman told us that both taxis and buses will be permitted to enter through the Area 2 gate and exit the Hollywood gate this coming NASCAR Weekend. (This does not apply to ride-sharing services Uber and Lyft, both of which are barred from the premises.) This community-friendly access policy for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series is a longstanding Nellis tradition. "We have a gate right across from the Speedway," said our Nellis source, "and it goes all the way to Lake Mead Boulevard. We've done this every year and it's always worked." So, if you prefer cabs to buses, you have no cause for worry.

Should you be traveling to the races from the Strip or downtown, however, there are regular RaceDay Express shuttle buses operating from/to Bally's, Stratosphere, Treasure Island, Tropicana, and the Plaza and this year fans can enjoy a new bus depot located much closer to the seating areas when they arrive. Click the link above and select the "Transportation" tab for shuttle schedules and more. If you're getting to Las Vegas Motor Speedway under your own steam, however, the Lucky 7 Parking is the closest parking area to the main grandstands, has a dedicated exit lane from the property following the event, and is the lot that empties first following the checkered flag, "so if you're in a rush when the race ends, this is the place to park" according to the official site. The parking pass, good for all three days, is $59.
