Question of the Day - 07 October 2016

Q:
In your Question of the Day on 10/3/2016, the one about the ladies’ room at the Fremont, you wrote that QoD is now an "all-male province." What happened to long-time QoD-answerer Jessica?

And

You said that Jessica is gone from the QOD and now it's all male. Too bad. I enjoyed her humor and wit. I'm looking forward to seeing what the new person brings to the column.

And

My husband and I are going to miss Jessica. We loved her off-the-wall asides and detours to Quirkyland. Her answers were the perfect combination of extensive research and fun.
A:

Jessica was the QoDmother for nearly a decade; thus, she was single-handedly responsible for the answers to, perhaps, a couple thousand Questions of the Day. And to those answers, add updates, personal correspondence, a large stable of contributors, and a voluminous list of expert contacts and you get some idea of the adroit juggling act she managed to pull off all those years.

And QoD was just one of numerous responsibilities she shouldered as web content manager for Huntington Press. It’s impossible to overstate the gaping hole her departure has left in the publishing company (not to mention how many juggling balls are now scattered all over the floor).

Of course, nothing is permanent except change (or as a wise woman once said, "Time is a dressmaker specializing in alterations") and Jessica was called back to Jolly Olde England to care for ailing parents. She’s still working with Huntington Press, but in a much more behind-the-scenes capacity from a distance.

Due to her departure (and the results of the recent reader poll about QoD), we’re reevaluating this feature, seriously considering opening up the closely guarded Archives, contingent on securing an advertising sponsor, on which we’re working.

The deft touch of Jessica, one of the funniest, savviest, most eloquent and elegant women we male QoDers have ever had the pleasure to know and work with, will certainly be missed for a long long time. We hope we can live up to the grand legacy she’s leaving behind.
