Question of the Day - 11 October 2016

Q:
I fly to Vegas and don't rent a car. The great transportation section on your website helps me get wherever I want to go very inexpensively (free shuttles, Monorail, etc.). Is there any easy, and maybe inexpensive, way to get to the recently opened Cracker Barrel located at 8350 Dean Martin Drive? I assume there aren't any closer. Their chicken and dumplings are yummy!
A:

The answer is yes. You’re in luck. And it's not only inexpensive, it's free.

It happens that the new (and only) Cracker Barrel is located a quarter-mile or so from Silverton Hotel-Casino, which has a free shuttle from the Forum Shops at Caesars.

The bus is a 12-seater with the Silverton and Bass Pro Shops logos on it. It leaves from the tour-bus loading area outside the Forum Shops at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30, 5:30, and 10:30 p.m., returning at 1:15, 5:15, and 10:15 p.m., and takes a half-hour each way. Practically speaking, unless you catch the 10:30 outbound and 1:15 inbound, it will be an all-afternoon or all-evening excursion.

Once you get to Silverton, you can disembark the shuttle and walk back to Dean Martin Drive, following it as it curves around the parking lot. Just past the end of the curve is the Cracker Barrel and we hope that the time and effort you invest in getting to and from its first store in Nevada and 639th in 43 states is paid off in chicken and dumplings, meat loaf, fried chicken, steaks, catfish, and wholesome fixin’s.

And by the way, we took this information directly from the Free Shuttles pages of the Transportation section of lasvegasadvisor.com, where you’ll also find information on other free shuttles, buses, the monorail, limos, taxis, rental cars, maps, and a guide for the disabled.

Update 11 October 2016
A second Cracker Barrel is opening in North Las Vegas on October 24 (at 6 a.m.) at 2815 E. Craig Road. And thanks to the QoD reader who supplied the following alternative to the long shuttle journey: We were in Las Vegas last week and tried Uber twice. From Paris to Palms: $6.90 in a nice Chrysler Town & Country. Paris to airport: $10.90 in a Hyundai mini-van. Pickup was on the north side of Paris Hotel. Wait time was 2 to 4 minutes. Fast, convenient, and inexpensive.
