Question of the Day - 11 December 2016

Q:
It’s been a while since you guys posted a list of the world’s largest hotels. You used to do it regularly. Any changes in the list over the past decade or so?
A:

You're right; we haven't updated this list in a while. Thanks for the suggestion.

The list of the world's largest hotels doesn't change too frequently, but it does change.

One of the challenges in presenting this enumeration is how rooms are counted. For example, are the Wynn and Encore, and Venetian-Palazzo, two separate hotels or one hotel complex? Are Disney's All-Star hotels (Sports, Music, and Movies) three or one? Do we include all the rooms at City Center? Are the Signature towers at MGM Grand added to the total?

Our list below is based on decisions we made while comparing four different compilations.

Note that Las Vegas is still heavily represented, with six of the 10 largest and 11 of the top 20. When/if Resorts World is completed to the announced size of 6,583 rooms, it will be the fifth largest in the world, giving Vegas seven of the top 10 and 12 of the top 20.

1. First World (Genting Highlands, Malaysia) 7,351 rooms 2. Venetian-Palazzo (Las Vegas) 7,117 3. MGM Grand (Las Vegas) 6,852 4. City Center (Las Vegas) 6,790 5. Sands Cotai Central (Macau) 6,000 6. Disney All-Star Resorts (Orlando) 5,524 7. Izmailovo (Moscow) 5,000 8. Wynn-Encore (Las Vegas) 4,750 9. Mandalay Bay-Delano-Four Seasons (Las Vegas) 4,726 10. Luxor (Las Vegas) 4,408 11. Ambassador City Jomtien (Thailand) 4,219 12. Excalibur (Las Vegas) 4,008 13. Sheraton Grand Macao 4,001 14. Caesars Palace (Las Vegas) 3,960 15. Bellagio (Las Vegas) 3,950 16.
