Question of the Day - 26 March 2017

Q:

Are there any bars and/or clubs that cater to Baby Boomers? It would be fun to be able to dance the Stroll with my wife in Vegas.

A:

Well, it's been 10 years since Forever Plaid closed. The Broadway musical comedy, about a resurrected '50s quartet, logged more than 4,700 performances at the Flamingo and Gold Coast from 1995 to 2007. We keep hoping for a revival.

But here are a few suggestions for doing a slow dance to the eponymous 1957 song.

HighRise, a local '50s/'60s band, has shows scheduled at the Aquarius in Laughlin June 22-25 and June 29-July 2. They've also been known to play at Arizona Charlie's, Eastside Cannery, South Point, and Rampart casinos. Check for future dates at http://www.highrisebandlasvegas.com.

And you'll definitely want to check out Ron Decar's Event Center on Las Vegas Blvd. just south of Charleston. This venue promotes VLV (Vintage Las Vegas) with buffets, dinners and cocktails, and mature entertainment, currently including Swingin' Sundays, A Baby Boomer's Toast to Broadway, and a Tribute to Debbie Reynolds among others. www.rondecarseventcenter.com.

If anyone out there has any other ideas, please let us know. Lotta Boomers in the crowd.

    Oldies music
Try Wes Winters' shows at the Southpoint. He's a onemanband piano player and vocalist....definitely an oldies show with 2 small dance floors on either side of the stage. He performs in the Grandview lounge on Fri and Sat nights at 7pm.

    Bronx Wanderers
Not a bar, but you will not find a better show that features 50's, 60's, and 70's music than the Bronx Wanderers at Bally's. It is a 5:30 p.m. show. My wife and I saw them on a whim a few years ago in Florida and now that they have a residency in Vegas, we make a point to see them every time we are in town.
