Question of the Day - 03 April 2017

Q:

Are all hotels in Las Vegas going non-smoking?

A:

Far from it, though the tide does seem to be turning.

Locals giants Station Casinos and Boyd Gaming are trying to hold back the no-smoking tide.

Caesars Entertainment seems to have a divided position. While its older properties allow at least a limited amount of in-room smoking, cigarettes, cigars, etc. are banned from The Crowmell — no doubt Caesars wants to slow down the physical degradation of its newest trophy property, and few things age a room quite like the redolence of tar and nicotine.

With very limited exceptions at Mandalay Bay and (for a $300 deposit) Bellagio, MGM Resorts International has gone completely smoke-free … a whale of an undertaking when you consider that it has 13,000 rooms at MGM Grand, Excalibur, and Aria alone. However, it appears to be on the leading edge of the trend.

Other hotels where you can enjoy a smoke-free existence include …

Best Western Casino Royale and (non-gaming) Best Western Plus on St. Rose Parkway

Bluegreen Club 36

Cancun Resort

Candlewood Suite

Cosmopolitan

Courtyard Inn

Delano

Element in Summerlin (enviro-friendly, the hoteliers strive for a 100% property-side)

Hoover Dam Lodge

Hilton Lake Las Vegas

Hawthorn Suites

Holiday Inn

JW Marriott Summerlin

Las Vegas Marriott Suites

Mandarin Oriental (almost goes without saying)

Platinum (has one of the most outstanding spas in Sin City)

Residence Inn Convention Center

SLS Las Vegas (a new-generation property with a clean slate and an intention to keep it that way)

Trump International (designated areas where you can light up)

Westin Las Vegas

If you love Las Vegas, but have been put off by smoky-smelling hotel rooms, the good news is that the no-smoking trend, especially at the newer properties, seems to be gaining steam.
