Question of the Day - 07 April 2017

Q:

Are Vegas sports books accepting prop bets on the Trump presidency?

And

Can a person bet on the Trump presidency with foreign gambling websites? If so, what types of bets are being offered?

A:

The two above questions are just a small sample of the ones we’ve received this year about gambling on the Donald Trump presidency.

Nevada sports books are prohibited from posting bets on non-sporting events. Some oddsmakers at Nevada sports books do put up odds on the Oscars, but that’s just for fun; you can’t bet on them in the U.S. However, offshore sports-betting websites and foreign bookmakers are having a field day on Trump propositions, almost like Nevada books on the Super Bowl.

Currently, we know of more than 100 props on Trump, the presidency, his policies, and his family. In fact, Trump bets are so popular that Paddy Power, a division of Betfair based in Dublin, has advertised for a “head of Trump betting” to oversee these props. The Irish gambling website is known for its over-the-top marketing stunts, but it claims that its “politics trader” literally is overwhelmed by the volume of betting, so it has to hire a “Trump betting expert.”

Here’s a sample of Paddy Power props on the president (on March 30; more and/or different ones are sure to posted by the time this answer runs):

He’ll leave office via resignation or impeachment and removal;

He’ll resign;

The year that he’s impeached;

What he’ll be impeached for (tax evasion, bribery, perjury, treason);

What he’ll ban (abortion, gay adoption, women/black voting rights, theory of evolution);

The first Trump staffer or appointee to leave his/her post (Sean Spicer is well in the lead);

The next Trump staffer to “quote a fake terror attack” (Spicer is the favorite here too);

The member of the Trump administration likely to resign next (Attorney General Jeff Sessions is the favorite);

Whether the president will seek to have his likeness added to Mount Rushmore;

Whether Trump will visit the United Kingdom this year (the odds are strongly against that, while somewhat in favor of visiting Russia);

Will France ask for the Statue of Liberty to be returned;

Reopen Alcatraz as a working prison;

Will Michael Moore be deported;
Will Melania be deported;

Will Trump have a motorcade through Dallas in 2017;

Will a Trump sex tape be leaked in 2017;

Which will end first? His presidency or his marriage;

Will Trump have a Russian airport named after him;

Will Mexico pay for the wall;

Will Trump grant all Mexicans U.S. citizenship;

The next retailer to drop the Ivanka brand (current favorites: TJ Maxx, Walmart, and Amazon);

The likelihood Trump will announce that alien life exists.

“Trump is the gift that keeps on giving,” a Paddy Power’s spokesperson said about the popularity of bets on the president.

But before you go wild betting against him, keep in mind that the foreign books lost millions when Trump was elected.

    I'll be visiting LAS in May. Are there any regular protests at his building that one could join? This would be a Godsend for those of us who don't live near any Trump properties.

    By the way, on the next staffer to leave, I bet the odds are plummeting on Bannon and Priebus! :-)
