I live on the East Coast, but have an upcoming Vegas trip scheduled for late April and am staying downtown. I was wondering if there were any updates regarding when the new Fremont Street White Castle location will be opening?
Ah, White Castle.
This hamburger chain dates back to 1921 and is credited with a number of firsts: the first fast food, the first hamburger bun, and the first chain restaurant, among them. It’s also as popular as In N Out and when the Las Vegas location opened in Jan. 2015 (marking the first expansion into a new state in 56 years), customers waited in line for up three hours to get a bag o’ sliders. In fact, demand was so high that the new store needed to shut down for two hours to restock — the first time such a thing had ever happened in White Castle history.
As for the downtown branch, it will open on the corner of Fremont and 4th, directly across from Neonopolis. The 3,428 square feet will be 40% smaller than the one on the Strip in Casino Royale.
As reported by Eater Las Vegas and Vital Vegas, the downtown White Castle has taken over the storefront of Trader Bill’s, which had occupied the building for 85 years, before turning into a Harley Davidson retail store, a $10 discount store, a T-shirt shop, and a cigar store. They’re all closed now as the White Castle is built out.
The opening date has not yet been announced and seems to be something of a secret so far. There’s no mention of it on the main White Castle website or the Las Vegas White Castle website. Eater Las Vegas last reported on it in mid-December 2016 and said, “A minimum of six months should be expected before opening day,” which puts it at mid-June at the earliest.
