Question of the Day - 09 May 2017

Q:

With the recent addition and quick subtraction of "good video poker" machines at Four Queens, I was wondering which casinos have been the most consistent over the years and decades of having and keeping "good video poker" machines. Specifically, I'd be interested in Full-Pay Deuces Wild video poker, but casinos with historically good machines are welcome.

A:

As Jean Scott likes to say, “The only consistent thing in casinos is change.”

And speaking of theh Queen of Comps, as she explains in great detail in her new book The Frugal Gambler Casino Guide, Jean looks for good plays, thus the choice of machines has to be considered in the broader context of benefits and promotions. In other words, sometimes the best game is not the best play.

That said, she and Brad have had to change their core casinos, the ones with the best machines and/or plays, many times over the past 33 years. Some of the casinos no longer exist; others have removed the good machines permanently, though occasionally, she tells us, a change in management has allowed them to go back to a previous place.

But to answer your question, South Point has offered good games and benefits since it opened in December 2005, but that’s a more recent option.

And yes, the Four Queens is a more venerable choice, which has kept good games, but cut slot club benefits on them.

The Palms has had Full-Pay Deuces Wild since it opened in 2001 and the game remains even since Station Casinos took it over last year, but those players earn almost no extra benefits and aren’t eligible for most promotions. It’s a similar situation in all the other Station Casinos.

The Gold Coast has historically offered good games (it opened in 1986) and offer frequent multiple-point days, but like most Vegas casinos, it has drastically cut down on bounce-back free play.

The Orleans doesn’t offer as many good games as it used to.

For current conditions, go to vpFREE2.com, select Games & Machines, Deuces Wild, and FPDW (100.76%) and you’ll come up with a number of them for 25 and 50 cents, $1 and $2, and even $5 at a few casinos.

You'll have to explain to me where you can play FP Deuces at higher than a quarter in Vegas. Also, while South Point is a great place to play VP, it has no 100% games and they are pulling player cards on advantage players, while Stations still offers the most 100% games.

Like Rick, I do not see any higher limit FPDW in vpFREE2.com. Only 5c, 10c and 25c in Las Vegas.
