Question of the Day - 11 June 2017

Q:

Since Bob Dancer doesn't have a version of his software “Video Poker for Winners” that runs on a Mac or IOS device, is there an equivalent VP learning software available that runs on a Mac or IOS device?

A:

Yes, there are.

For Macintosh computers, long-time video poker expert and computer programmer Dan Paymar has developed and sells software called Optimum Video Poker. It’s a training program that does just about anything you need to do as a VP player, including highlighting your errors, generating strategy charts, calculating costs of playing errors, showing breakevens for progressives, and more.

It runs on any Mac using OS X 10.9.5, 10.10.5, 10.11.x, and macOS Sierra 10.12.x (and Windows 7 with Service Pack 1 (SP1) installed, Windows 8.1, and Windows 10).

For devices, as you might imagine, there are lots of video poker training apps. We haven't tested them, but by reputation, we can suggest the Video Poker Wizard app for iPhones from the Wizard of Odds (sold in the iTunes store). It works only on the iPhone, but the Wizard himself recommends Perfect Play Video Poker for Android devices. You can also check videopoker.com for their recommendations.

Perhaps some readers of this answer would like to make personal recommendations for VP apps for iPhones and Androids.

    iPhone VP trainer
Only good one I can still find on iTunes Store is the one I use and recommend: "Winpoker" by Zamzow software. When I got it, it was $9.99, but definitely worth it. Couldn't find the Video Poker Wizard app... would love to try it!

    Malware on your site
Hey, LVA and Anthony Curtis! Just what kind of hideous malware are you putting on your site to make a few extra bucks?

I just visited the QoD page on Android and then tapped the link to the previous day's question. A full page ad with a spinning wheel appeared followed by a popup that told me I was a big winner and to tap ok and then ENTER MY CREDENTIALS to win a big prize. When I closed the tab, an identical one immediately opened up with the same obviously dangerous php popup. I could not get rid of this apparent malware. I had to resort to killing the browser via the Android settings to get rid of this crap.

I read others here complain when you first launched the new site about something similar. This is no way to run a railroad.

Looks like we're SOL on the Video Poker Wizard IOS app. From the Wizard of Vegas forums.

Apple decided to drop it because I never updated it. The reason I never updated it was that JB got it right the first time and there were not improvements to be made. This is far from the only frustration I've had with Apple. If I do another app, which I'd like to, it will be for the Android."
