Question of the Day - 20 September 2023

Q:

Is there a book in the works that discusses AP slots?

A:

There most certainly is. And thanks for inquiring.

The third edition of Michael "Wizard of Odds" Shackleford's Gambling 102, which is one of our perennial bestsellers, contains three chapters on what he calls "vulturing" slot machines that can be beaten under certain conditions.

These "variable-state" games often rise to a player advantage. Those who play these games in a "high state" only and leave them alone while they're in a negative state are known colloquially as “vultures.” The new chapters teach you when to vulture 12 popular slot games, including Rich Little Piggies, Cashman Bingo, Scarab, Golden Jungle Grand, Hexbreak3r, and Magic of the Nile, plus Ultimate X video poker and Ultimate X keno.

As far as we know, this is the first time actual play points on such games have been put into print. And trust us, advantage players aren't going to like it. Of course, a lot of hard work is involved in finding these machines, knowing when they turn positive for the player, and implementing the strategies for each when they do. But Gambling 102 will at least give you an idea of what's involved and a starting place if you want to pursue this opportunity.

The book is at the printer and should be back in a couple of months. We'll let you know when it is.

    AP Slots
So, do you get college credit for playing AP slots? :-)

    WHAT THE HECK
Is AP Slots....advantage play maybe? If yes, how can that even be possible? As you can see, I am not a big-time gambler.

    AP
Clifford, yes AP is advantage play. On progressive machines the jackpot can rise high enough that you would have a mathematical advantage to play. There are also some games that can occasionally become AP with the combination of pay tables and point bonuses. Pro players like Bob Dancer figure out those but they are hard to find, not many of them around.

    CLIFFORD REPLY
Everything VegasVic told you is very true but the QOD names slot machine titles that can become AP games during their normal cycles. Typically only 2 to 8 percent of slot machines on any given casino floor can at times be AP games. Some are progressive, some are numbers (a form of progressive in a way), and many have indicators. Think of the fairy tale Hansel and Gretel. The breadcrumbs are the indicator. Each game is different and I know how to play Hundreds of them. This new book will discuss older and very easy to read games with the exception of Hexbreaker which is more complex to read. Hexbreaker is like a multi variable equation and is not the AP slot game to begin learning on.

    MORE DETAILS
Rge published the original book on New years day 1999. Then a 2nd edition came out on Sept 2000 with way more titles. Hard to believe that LVA didn't know about this as.... wait for this... the 2nd edition was written by not only Charles (Safety Pin) w. Lund but Arnold Snyder. SMH on this one unless their is some beef with Rge Pub???
