I read an article online about Vegas buffets where Anthony was quoted. Nothing unusual there, except he was referred to in the article as Tony Curtis, not Anthony. Since he is invariably referred to as Anthony in everything I've seen, It never dawned on me until I read that article that he shares a name with the famous actor. The byline for the article was Ed Komenda from the Reno Gazette-Journal, so I assume he's pretty familiar with Anthony. Which brings me to my question: Does he go by Anthony always, or Anthony professionally and Tony to his friends?
There was one time that Anthony referred to himself as Tony. He was at the party for the opening of a show at Mandalay Bay. He looked around the room and saw none other than Tony Curtis -- he of Some Like It Hot, The Great Race, Houdini, The Boston Strangler, and our favorite, The Defiant Ones, along with 95 other movies, plus six wives and daughter Jamie Lee -- sitting by himself. Anthony walked up to him and said, "Hi. I'm Tony Curtis too." In response, Tony Curtis shrugged.
End of conversation.
Think it was because Tony Curtis' real name was Bernard Schwartz?
Anyway, a few people do call our Anthony "Tony" and Ed Komenda is one of them. We were, however, a little surprised that Ed used it in print.
As for the rest of us, we never call him Tony. It's Anthony, or A.C., which is sometimes pronounced Acey, or Mr. Curtis, when we're feeling especially formal.
