When I went to the casino in Tampa, I was told that they could not comp drinks at the bar like in Las Vegas because they were not an Indian casino even though I was playing video poker at the bar. Are the Seminoles the owners of the casino? What are the restrictions to comp drinks? This was the same reason given to me at the Oxford Casino in Maine. They comp drinks in Connecticut at Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun. What are the reasons for not comping the drinks?

I’ve always wanted to own a casino. I know a little of the history of gambling in Nevada, so I’m aware that owning a casino isn’t a license to print money; many casinos have gone broke, bankrupting the owners, through the years. Still, humor me for an off-the-wall question! Say I opened a casino in my house. After accounting for restroom, restaurant, kitchen, and back-of-the-house space, I’d have 1,000 square feet remaining for the casino. Based on industry averages, how much money could I expect to earn annually?

I recently mailed in a winning sports ticket and sent it regular mail, since it was under $40. I've heard nothing more and I'm starting to think that something is wrong! Is there anything I can do? I made a copy of it and filled in my information on the back of the ticket. But since I didn't send it registered mail, am I out of luck? In the future, would I be better off signing up for an online sports-betting account while I'm in Nevada?

I’m reading an article that says the $10 million WSOP Main Event is down to three people. When you get to that level of play (all world-class experts), doesn’t it become more luck than skill?

While watching the WSOP Main Event, I was confounded by the betting in odd amounts. For example, if the players have 20 million stacks and up and the blinds are 1 million and 2 million, why do they so often bet 4.6 million, 6.8 million, etc.?

Daniel Negreanu and Jack McClelland are being inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame in a ceremony being held at Binion’s at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 9, a day before the final table of the WSOP Main Event takes place at Rio. The festivities will take place in the Longhorn Room. I’m arriving in Las Vegas that day and I would like to attend that ceremony. From what I can find, the Longhorn Room has a capacity of about 400 people. Is a ticket purchase required to watch the ceremony? If so, where to buy? Regardless, do I have a shot at getting in as just an interested recreational poker player?

I first read Comp City many years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it, repeatedly referring to it over the years in order to maximize my comps. Given the residual effects of the Great Recession, the exponential progress of tracking/analyzing technology, and the almost-absolute stranglehold that the corporate mindset has on the gaming industry (which puts profits above all else including customer satisfaction/loyalty), I wonder how much of the techniques or even the practice of comp wizardry is feasible today. Any thoughts?

Can you tell me the difference between a VLT (video lottery terminal) and a regular slot machine? Here in Ohio they advertise VLTs, not slot machines. Also, I have not seen VLTs in Vegas.
