A few years ago at my friend's wedding in Michigan we went across to a casino in Canada and became fixated with playing Sigma Derby, a horse racing game where you wagered on the quinella of 5 plastic horses. The groom and myself are huge fans of horse racing in general, so this was entertaining for hours. In August (11-16) we are coming to Vegas for the bride's 30th birthday and I am hoping to find a Sigma Derby left somewhere in Vegas. The last one I knew was one in the MGM, but I don't know if it's still there or not. Can the LVA help me find Sigma Derby or something similar for this trip with my friends?

While I was in Vegas the week of 7/12, Mermaids and La Bayou were closed. What happened? Will they reopen or are they permanently defunct due to $$$ woes? I sure missed my semi-annual La Bayou Yard!

We will be coming out to Vegas for our twice-yearly vacation in October. After all the comments in David McKee's blog, will the Riviera still be there then? That's our home away from home!

I was watching the blackjack movie 21, and at one point, during a discussion at a coffee shop, one of the players said "It would be fine to split eights against a five or six, but you don't split them against a ten where you'll end up with two losing hands." I've never seen a basic strategy that didn't advocate splitting 8s against everything, but it's never seemed like a sound move to me. Plus, LVA wrote that this movie is technically sound, at least on the math and card-counting explanations. So what's the reality on splitting 8s against a ten?

I'm definitely interested in ordering your "Topless Vegas" book, but notice you state it's an e-Book. Do I need some sort of special e-Book reader to view it, or can I read it using standard PC based software? Also, since I am not a big fan of reading books on my computer screen, is a hard copy version of it planned for release?
