In your QoD on the Burning Man festival, you mentioned that the sound barrier was broken on land out there for the first time in 1997? That seems like a such big deal that it's curious that I, and presumably a lot of readers, never heard about it. Can you tell us the story?

On our last trip to Vegas, we made the journey to Ellis Island. The visit provoked the memory process into wondering what happened to the expansion they were undergoing a few years back with Michael Jordan as an investor?

My question stems from a cocktail book that I picked up illustrating a history of Las Vegas. What can you tell me about a casino called the Moulin Rouge? All I have read is that it was the first integrated casino. Where was it located? The book neglected to tell us that.

What is the status of the Hoover Dam bypass bridge? I heard that there were some construction accidents last year and problems with the concrete that might delay the project. Can you give some details?

We know that casino staffers and Las Vegas itself run on tips, which we fully understand and support, when earned. The question is: Are there any guidelines for tipping for various services? We leave $2 each day (in the '80s we would leave $1 per day) for the cleaning lady, but based on your recent information about tipping for valet parking this seems too little. How much does one tip dealers, bellmen/women, cocktail people etc. etc.?

What ever happened to the Showboat Hotel & Casino? It changed to Castaways and from there I don't know what happened to it. Is it open as something else or did it get torn down to be replaced?

Is the "tram" that runs behind Harrah's and Bally's free?

We plan to visit Las Vegas in October, not to gamble but to take it in as a tourist attraction. We want to go to the casinos to see what they look like. My question is: Is my 16-year-old son allowed inside the casinos if he’s with his parents (us)? Are there tours inside the casino so tourists (including minors) can see what they look like?

How do the large hotels maintain an adequate supply of hot water for their guests and the needs of the facility?
