Regarding yesterday's Question of the Day. The writer is correct, in that the residents voted in an increase in the sales tax about 10 years ago. You didn't address his question but assumed this new increase is what he was speaking of. I, too, often wondered what became of that increase.

I lived in Las Vegas for 11 years, until 2006, and seem to remember that a slight increase in sales tax (1/4 cent?) was voted on and approved, all of which was to go for more police protection. Your recent QoD implied that there is a shortage of police. What's the deal?

With the old Sky Vue property up for sale, I was wondering whatever happened to the roller coaster Speed: The Ride? Is it still on the property, in pieces? Is it included in the property sale? And is there any possibility of someone resurrecting that ride?

After seeing a recent KLAS TV local news story on crime on the Strip, what's your take on the increase in organized pick pocketing, trick rolls, etc.? They seemed to indicate that hotel security has become overwhelmed, especially by the clubs.

Your QoD from Dec. 28, 2015 indicated that the new tower at the Silverton was going to be an all-suite addition to the hotel. We had an opportunity last night to stay at the hotel. During check in we asked the hotel clerk when the new hotel tower was set to open. She said, "Oh, no, the addition is a timeshare tower" -- not part of the hotel. Who has the real scoop?

Regarding hotels charging guests parking fees … I have a handicap plate. Will I still be charged full price for parking?

Last year Nellis A.F.B. opened its roads for taxi and bus traffic going to Las Vegas Motor Speedway for the NASCAR races. I heard that this year only buses will be allowed to cut through the base and not taxi cabs. Is there any truth to this and why?

While traveling on the I-15 and other highways, I noticed large metal animal figures along the median. Is there somewhere I can purchase one of them and have it shipped to my home? A website would be great Thanks -- they are amazing!

How would the average person go about buying stock in a casino corporation (in my case, Boyd, since I'm loyal to their casinos and hotels)? I'm guessing there are ways to buy without exorbitant broker fees ... Any advice?
