So when does construction start on the new A's stadium?
This is something of a moving target.
In October 2023, the construction manager Mortenson-McCarthy indicated an April 2025 start and that's the date most often cited.
However, more recent statements, including one from A's owner John Fisher, indicate a later date, more like mid-year, meaning late June or early July.
An exact date isn't, actually, possible yet, since a number of details need to be finalized, not the least of which is the financing for construction. Details of the team's investment, which is substantial (in the $1.5 billion range), haven't been announced and Clark County is still in the process of hammering out a development agreement with the team. Other agreements, along with legal and logistical issues, also await resolution.
In the meantime, time is ticking.
The 2025 MLB season started on March 27, leaving less than three years for the new stadium to open by the much-ballyhood deadline, the 2028 season. It took 31 months to build Allegiant Stadium. Granted, Allegiant is much bigger and more expensive than the A's stadium, but if ground is broken in June, that leaves roughly 33 months to open the A's home field.
We would take the over, but we're not convinced this stadium will happen at all. So we're not placing any bets.
