Question of the Day - 02 June 2023

Q:

What's happening with that indoor golf attraction that was supposed to be built next to the Strat?

And

Wondering if you have any insight on the Atomic Range I read is being built at the Strat? Is this basically going to be a Top Golf clone or is there more to it? Will the golfing customers have the privilege of paying to park at the Strat?

A:

It's called Atomic Golf and it's currently taking shape on the vacant lot next door to the Strat on its north side. Construction began last August and we're told it's on schedule to be completed and open for business in time for the Grand Prix in mid-November.

It's a major piece of construction, costing $75 million, and it seems to be going up fast. It will be four stories with a total of 100,000 square feet.

The interactive golf technology is touted as the most advanced anywhere. Which it should be, since the developer-owner is Flite Golf & Entertainment, one of the leading technology and operational partners to golf venues and ranges around the world, and this will be its flagship location (it also has venues in Dallas, New Orleans, and Milwaukee, along with Saudi Arabia and London).

The 103 simulated driving ranges feature simulations of full rounds of golf on famous courses from around the world; the most popular, according to the company, are Pebble Beach in California and St. Andrews in Scotland. The games aren't only enhanced by high-quality imagery, but real-time weather conditions create a more realistic experience. Games also include darts, blackjack, long drive, and H.O.R.S.E. There will also be 10 pads in the Putting District, which can host up to eight players at a time.

The Astrocade will be a watch-party space with a four-story LED screen. Atomic Golf will also offer three bars and lounges, each with its own menu and atmosphere. The Tap Room, for example, will feature several dozen craft beers and the Cosmic Lounge will boast interactive digital walls. Luxury suites will host group and corporate events with custom catering.

In the most recent earnings call, Golden Entertainment execs claimed that they expect a half-million annual visitors to Atomic Golf and touted the fact that they'll park in the Strat's garage and then have to traipse through the casino, perhaps leaving some money behind, on their way in and out. Anyone believe that that might be part of the reason Golden started charging for parking at the Strat a few weeks ago?

    So near, but . . .
Top Golf always beckons, when you are on the Strip. Have you ever tried to walk there through MGM? You pass thru a few time zones. Paying for parking, at the Strat, might be closer.

    FAKE Golf
Another great idea for LAZY folks to waste money on what is really just an expensive VIDEO GAME. How about playing REAL golf at a REAL golf course? Nope. That is just what the "old folks" do right? Pathetic...

    MY EXPERIENCE
IS THAT SERIOUS GOLFERS WANT THEIR OWN CLUBS. ME WONDERS HOW MANY ARE WILLING TO HAUL GOLF CLUBS THRU THE CASINO OR EVEN BRING THEM FROM HOME. MAYBE THE STRAT CAN RENT GOLF CARTS. ANYWAY, IT ALL SOUNDS REALLY COOL AND I HOPE IT'S A SUCCESS.

    $75 Million to build
I wonder just how many years and how many "golfers" it will take just to recoup the cost of building it and to maintain it. This and the MGM Sphere are destined to be financial boondoggles.

    500,000 visitors?
Who believes this stuff? So they expect almost 1,400 people per
day, 365 days a year, to visit this place? Ok.
