What words of wisdom do you have for attending the Aviators game on Tuesday, June 24th? It’s a 7:05 game. Is there shade anywhere? Are there seats where you don’t have the sun directly in your face? Are there any indoor seats? Any recommendations on food at the stadium? Looking for the inside scoop that you guys always seem to be able to get.
For those who don't make an instant connection with the name Aviators, its the MiLB (Minor League Baseball) team affiliate of the Oakland/Sacramento/Las Vegas/God Knows Where Athletics.
First and foremost, shade and sun protection. Since the game starts at 7:05 p.m., the sun will still be up for the early innings (sunset in Las Vegas in June is around 8 p.m.).
To avoid the sun shining directly into your eyes, steer clear of seats facing west, like those in the outfield or along the first-base line. Sections 114-116 behind the road team dugout on the third-base side are your best options. These seats typically get shaded earlier in evening games as the sun sets and they’re protected by netting which might help with any low-angle sunlight. Bringing a hat or sunglasses could also be a smart move for extra comfort during the first hour or so of play, plus however early you arrive.
If you want even more protection, seats under the grandstand overhang could work, though the view might be slightly limited from the back rows.
As for the heat, expect temperatures in the high 90s in the evening in late June. Luckily, the Las Vegas Ballpark does indeed offer club seats and suites, which come with access to an air-conditioned VIP lounge. These seats are perfect if you want to escape the heat or sun completely and they include perks like wider seats, in-seat service, and upgraded food and drink options. Keep in mind that these are more expensive and might already be sold out, so check availability soon if you’re interested.
As for food, the ballpark has the typical lineup of options.
BBQ Mexicana is good for barbacoa and smoked meats, plus burnt-ends or avocado-chicken burritos and BLTA salad. Home Run Tacos also serves Mexican. Custom Hot Dogs offers a selection of dogs and sausages with creative toppings, a step up from the usual ballpark frank. Flight Deck serves the signature Aviator burger and changing burgers depending on the away-team opponent. And Frankie's Uptown, a popular Downtown Summerlin restaurant next door to the ballpark, offers a selection of their favorites, such as the meatballs and Aviators Stroll (featuring pepperoni, sausage, and meatballs with mozzarella and a light marinara sauce). Get to the park early and scope out the food for what looks best to you, but note that cash isn't accepted, only plastic.
Parking is free and there are almost enough spaces to go around, 2,370 for a capacity crowd of 10,000 (8,200 fixed seats). So we recommend getting there sixish to snag a spot. Bags larger than 16" x 16" x 8" aren’t allowed, so pack light.
Have a great time and let us know how it went!
