Question of the Day - 04 January 2025

Q:

What Big Things are happening this year in Las Vegas? No Super Bowl at Allegiant and I know the dreaded F1 will return in November, but any other big sporting events? Any casinos opening? Any major announcements on the horizon?

A:

As for sporting events, the biggest one is also the earliest: a soccer game between Inter Miami CF vs. Club América. Inter Miami, of course, is the team that Leo Messi plays for and they're facing Club América, current three-time LIGA MX champion, for the first time in history. This takes place on January 18 at Allegiant Stadium, which is gonna rock all the way down to the foundations. WrestleMania 41, the WWE's largest event of the year, is expected to attract 180,000 fans when it storms into Las Vegas over Easter weekend, April 19-20. Beyond those, there are a number of smaller international futbol contests at Allegiant. And personally, we're looking forward to the debut of the Las Vegas Bighorns, the new Ultimate Frisbee Association franchise.

Within the next couple of months, the Miracle Mile Food Hall will open at the mall next to Planet Hollywood. Just down the street, BLVD, the massive four-story shopping center that replaced the Hawaiian Marketplace and environs, is opening in stages. Grand Prix Plaza will debut in late spring at the F1 pit property on Harmon and Koval, with several attractions, including a go-kart race, F1 simulators, and a restaurant/bar, to encourage year-round interest in the Las Vegas Grand Prix.

Ground is supposed to be broken on the Las Vegas A's stadium in April, but we're not betting on it.

The Venetian Food Hall opens sometime this summer. The long-awaited completion of the Tropicana-Interstate 15 interchange is also scheduled for late summer. Area15's major expansion, with a huge new horror attraction, is slated for just before Halloween. Ellis Island's expansion will debut just before the end of the year and M Resort's second 384-room hotel tower and expanded meeting space is supposed to be finished by the end of the year.

As for announcements, we don't know of any, but by their nature, those are usually unexpected.

Pathetic, boring, mind numbing. The only good thing about it is the fact that it is a good cardio workout - with flopping thrown in...

    Rugby in LV
Allegiant also hosts a bunch of rugby matches by top teams from all over the world, that should be well attended. Much like the various soccer teams, rugby has a pretty good following through out the world.
