Question of the Day - 06 December 2018

Q:

Binion’s is having a furniture sale for all the items still in the hotel portion this month. Are they actually, finally serious about doing something with that part of the property now?

A:

“Own a piece of history,” begins the official notice of the sale.

And the answer to your question is no.

“We’re clearing out the rooms at the Mint hotel, but that doesn’t mean we’re going to reopen it,” says a Binion’s executive.

As for the Hotel Apache (the original rooms above the casino) part of the complex, “We’re not releasing any information.”

Which could mean something, other than a yard sale, is cooking, and probably does, though your guess is as good as ours as to what that might be. You have to hand it to Binion’s: They know how to keep us on tenterhooks.

If you're interested in owning one of those pieces of history, you’ll have to act quickly. The furniture goes on sale at noon tomorrow, December 7, and the sale ends at 6 p.m. on Monday, December 10. It will be held in the Longhorn Room on the second floor at Binion’s.

    Remodel?
Rumor it that they have asbestos issues.

Once they closed, the fate was sealed. Reopening would require it being gutted to the steel skeleton to remove the asbestos then rebuilt before opening again.

If you won, you were history
I think that the reason they don't want to tear the place down is that the bodies of all the card counters they "caught" would be discovered. Ol' Benny knew how to deal with his enemies in, as he put it, "a most artistic way."

    yuckyrooms
I stayed there before they closed the hotel rooms years ago comped. The
rooms were thread bare and the furniture formica junky at best.
