Question of the Day - 29 October 2025

Q:

In your answer about Las Vegas pivoting from value conscious to the high end, you ended with this sentence. "We might be a dying breed, but until we’re all gone, we can still get more out of Las Vegas than Las Vegas gets out of us. Just ask Bobby Vegas." Well, I'd like to ask him what he thinks, but who is he? I must be missing something. Can you tell me more about him and how to get in touch with him?

A:

With pleasure.

Bobby Vegas is one of our regular bloggers and has been for nearly three years. He's proud to call himself a “scuffler,” someone who uses every advantage in casino gambling: planning trips with airline points, stacking promotions with coupons and any deals he can find, discovering new venues, lowering food costs with comps, landing discounted or free rooms, etc. During more than 65 trips to Vegas in the past 28 years, Bobby’s first choice has been video poker, followed by AP techniques applied to roulette, sports betting, and craps. “Diverse games and strategies allow for the most fun, at the least risk, for as long as time will allow,” he says.

He writes his twice-monthly eponymous blog for fellow scufflers and Vegas nuts, couponers, advantage players, comp hustlers, and anyone who likes to get their Vegas vacations for pennies on the dollar -- winning more, losing less, extracting the highest value, and having a great time, all in Sin City.

He thinks of himself as a treasure hunter, finding valueables wherever he can and he loves to share his discoveries with others, via his blog, website, and personal connections.

He's retired from a multi-decade career in energy-efficient lighting and his first trip to Vegas was for a trade show in the early '90s. (You can read that story in his inaugural post on LVA.com.) He moved to Raleigh, North Carolina, in 2002 and though he's had significant health issues for the last 18 months or so, he's managed to keep up the blog and will pick back up his Vegas travel schedule of three to six times a year, often for at least a week and sometimes up to 10 days. He's a nerd with a love of numbers, a writer and poet, a dancer, and he applies frugal principles in every aspect of his life; one of our favorite Bobby Vegas blogs is "Living Well Anywhere Anytime."

Of course, every one of his blogs contains gems of wisdom about Champagne living on a beer budget and you can see the whole kit and caboodle, all 73 posts, on seven pages in our blog listings

As for contacting him, he's easily accessible. Just go to his personal website (BobbyVegas.com) and fill out the messaging form right on the home page.

And thanks for asking. It gives us a chance to brag about one of our favorite people and best Vegas discoveries.

    APing roulette?
Biased roulette wheels are very rare. Maybe he found found a biased roulette wheel with triple green. LOL.

    Love Bobby's work
How can you not love a guy who figured out a way that (at least for a few) one can still redeem the Golden Gate MRB coupons. I'm not a professional scuffler, but I do love me a bargain. At the same time, I pride myself on being a George whether I'm buying a beer at 4Q or a side of beef at Vic & Anthony's. My tips are appreciated in Vegas, even the small ones--kicking back a dollar or two at the cashier cage, a fiver to the harried LAS rent-a-car center--they go a long way in this day and age.

Bobby V is a great guy and a friend. I look forward to reading his blogs. Hope his health lets him dance through Vegas soon.
