Question of the Day - 10 September 2025

Q:

Brent Musburger recently appeared at the Hall of Fame Game in Canton, Ohio. Is he still living in Las Vegas? Still doing Raiders games and involved with VSiN?

A:

For anyone who isn't familiar with the name (or voice), Brent Musburger has been an American sportscaster since 1973.

He was raised in Billings, Montana, and was involved in sports at many different levels from an early age -- player, umpire, sportswriter. In 1968 when he was 29, Musburger began a 22-year career with CBS, first as a sports anchor, then as a play-by-play announcer, where he made his name during such big games as the Super Bowl, NBA Finals, the World Series, U.S. Open tennis, and the Masters. He was the original host of "The NFL Today" and is credited with coining the phrase "March Madness."

He switched to ESPN and ABC Sports in 1990, hosting Monday Night Football, doing play-by-play for Saturday Night Football, and expanding his coverage to the Indianapolis 500, Rose Bowl, FIFA World Cup, and Belmont Stakes. Finally, he was the play-by-play voice of the Las Vegas Raiders from 2018 until 2022 and he co-founded VSiN, the Vegas Sports Information Network.

As for what he's doing now, VSiN publicist Michelle Musburger, the wife of Brent's nephew Brian, responds, “Brent loves Las Vegas and splits his time between here and Montana. While he hasn't called Raiders games in a few years, he’ll be cheering them on at home games in the coming months. Brent continues to be a VSiN contributor and hopes to cash some tickets this football season!”

Which sounds like Brent is enjoying a well-merited retirement.

And just as we were working on this answer, CBS announced that they'll celebrate the 50th anniversary of "The NFL Today" before Week 3’s games and that Brent will appear on the show. His original co-hosts, Irv Cross and Phyllis George, will be replaced by James Brown, Bill Cowher, Nate Burleson, and Matt Ryan.

    Brent
One of the nicest guys in sport broadcasting. We talked to him several times before or after his VSIN show at South Point.
