I just read in the LVA Newsletter that the Venetian is bringing back Broadway to the Strip. In the past, the casinos that had Broadway shows made sure the run time centered around 90 minutes or so, making edits to the show necessary. When they had Phantom of the Opera, the show, as I recall as it has been a while since I saw it there, suffered from the required cuts. Do you know if Mrs. Doubtfire and Book of Mormon will be forced to make edits in the shows as the run times of these border on 2:30 hours with intermission, or will we be treated to the entire production.
According to the Venetian, both Mrs. Doubtfire and The Book of Mormon will run for two hours and 30 minutes. This includes a 15-minute intermission.
Mrs. Doubtfire is scheduled for two weeks, July 22 through August 2. The Book of Mormon will play November 4-15. Both will appear in the Venetian Theater, where Phantom of the Opera was performed for six plus years, 2006-2012.
Since these are traveling productions, making brief stops around the country, they're not at all like Phantom of the Opera. The number of these limited engagements is less than 1% of Phantom's residency, which went on for just under 2,700 performances. As such, they won't be at all abbreviated, as a long-running show usually are, in order to send the theater crowds back into the casino before too long.
