Some of us were talking about this today. There is a pecking order for who will be eligible to get the first COVID shots. Has the governor of Nevada stated where sex workers fit in the order? Are they considered "essential workers" and therefore given priority? We thought the question was humorous, but I would think it is quite serious to some people!
Sex workers aren't, to be sure, "essential," at least according to the current powers that be. The brothels closed in March and haven't reopened yet, for obvious reasons.
Nevada Governor Sisolak said recently that the legal brothels are "not on his radar," which means they won't reopen anytime soon. Previously referring to them, he said, “Certainly, we’re going to have to look at getting kids back into schools before we look at getting folks back into brothels.”
Even though other close-contact businesses, such as hair salons and massage and tattoo parlors, are allowed to operate, the brothels seem to be especially targeted. In addition, since sex workers in the brothels are independent contractors, collecting unemployment benefits is problematic.
Alice Little, who claims to be "the world's highest paid sex worker," earning $1 million a year at the Moonlight Bunny Ranch outside Carson City, is suing the state, demanding that the governor defend his position on sex workers -- specifically, why they're not permitted the right to ply their legal trade at home or in private locations -- in court.
But we digress.
Inferring from the governor's statements and policies, working girls most likely take their place among the general younger population in the pecking order for vaccination against the coronavirus.
